Chapada Diamantina National

Trekking the fantasy world of Chapada Diamantina
5 nights / 6 days

AIRPORT: LEC

ITINERARY: Lençóis – Vale do Pati – Capão – Lençóis

Brimming with unimaginable beauty, otherworldly underground pools and cutting canyons of ancient trees and great cliff edges,  Chapada Diamantina National Park is the ultimate destination for all manner of hiking routes, just a few hours’ drive from Salvador, Brazil. During this four-day trek, we will enter into an Eden of crystalline streams, blue lagoons hidden deep within prehistoric caves and hilltop lookout points which will have you transfixed on the blockbuster landscape below. Be sure to pack a good pair of walking shoes, as over 70km of blissful trials and rocky climbs will be conquered as you dissect this vibrant area of wildlife and biodiversity. As if bathing in mineral-rich, hidden lakes and gazing across tabletop mountains like a scene from the latest fantasy film were not enough, then enjoying the hospitality of friendly locals while you stay in their private homes will surely round off a hiking trip to truly remember!

DAY 1 – Origin – Lençóis

Airport arrival at Lençóis and land transfer to the hotel. After check in we will walk around the city of Lençóis getting to know some of its history, its architecture with European influence and some curiosities of this friendly town, famous for diamond mining in the 19th century. We will see why, in 1973, it was recognized by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN).

Along the path, we’ll pass through the main houses of the time such as the home of Colonel Horácio de Matos and Floriano Peixoto, listening to curious facts as we cross the city along the Praça Horácio de Matos to the coreto of the city. We then walk passing the Rua das Pedras, the churches of Senhor do Passos and Rosário. Accommodation

Night at the Pousada Vila Serrano | Standard Room.
Included: driver + guide , private service , arrival transfer , activity with guide , walking tour , room and
breakfast

DAY 2 – Lençóis – Vale do Pati (B, S, D)

In the morning we travel over land to Guiné, where we begin the trek at Vale do Pati. On this first trekking day we will visit the small town of Guiné and the Cachoeirão, one of the nicest waterfalls in Chapada Diamantina. After trekking for around 18km, we will be welcomed with a well- deserved dinner and rest in a local house where we will stay for the night. Accommodation.

Airport arrival at Lençóis and land transfer to the hotel. This pretty town was known as the Diamond Capital and was declared a National Heritage in 1973. With the end of mining and the creation of the Chapada Diamantina National Park, tourism became an important development source for the region. Accommodation.

DAY 3 – Vale do Pati (B, S, D)

During this second trekking day we will walk to Lajeado, Bananeiras and Cachoeira dos Funis where we can take a swim. This is a more relaxed day and after walking about 8km we will go back to the natives’ house to learn from their daily life. Accommodation.

DAY 4 – Vale do Pati – Capão (B, S)

After breakfast we walk up an arduous path towards Rio Preto, located on the peak of Gerais do Vieira. We will take a swim in the natural pools of this area and then continue walking to the beginning of Vale do Capão, where a vehicle will be waiting to take us to the village of Capão. Throughout the day we will have walked nearly 22km.
Accommodation in Capão.

DAY 5 – Capão – Lençóis (B)

In the morning we visit the village of Capão and then continue to one of the main outposts of Chapada: Morro do Pai Inácio. Later we will go back to Lençóis to stay for the night. Accommodation.

DAY 6 – Lençóis – Destination (B)

In the morning we have private transfer to Lençóis airport for departure to the next destination.

USEFUL INFORMATION

• What to bring?
◦ Comfortable shoes, as historic spots have cobblestone roads. We recommend wearing waterproof shoes to avoid getting wet feet in case of rain or when walking on wet zones.
◦ Hygiene products and medicines for personal use.
◦ We recommend a 10-15kg backpack for activities and leave the rest of the luggage at Lençois. If you have a raincoat with possibility of putting the bag inside is better.
◦ Insect repellent and sunscreen all year.
◦ A bottle to drink water, avoiding the use of disposable containers.

◦ You can travel throughout the year, being the coldest winter between June and September and the hottest summer between December and March.

• Guides in German are limited; please book them as soon as possible to confirm availability.

• Hiking Level of Difficulty: This trekking is moderate/difficult, and it goes across inside the National Park (it becomes difficult in case of rain). The whole trek is around 70km for 4 days.

• Banks and money exchange: The exchange and/or cash withdrawal at ATMs is preferably done at airports for security and because most Aniyami Experiences take place in locations with little banking structure.

• Comments & Restrictions
◦ Guides in German are limited; please book them as soon as possible to confirm availability.
